The Utah Coalition Against Sexual Assault (UCASA) engages individuals and organizations in local and statewide collaborations to strengthen the effectiveness of sexual violence education, prevention, and response in Utah. Founded in 1996, UCASA has built long-standing partnerships with state agencies and service providers. Together, we support survivors and work to prevent sexual assault in all its forms.

Position Summary

The SART (Sexual Assault Response Team) Coordinator supports and strengthens Utah’s coordinated community response to sexual violence by facilitating multidisciplinary collaboration across systems. This position works closely with partners throughout Utah—including law enforcement, healthcare providers, prosecutors, victim advocates, and Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANEs)—to ensure a victim-centered, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive response to sexual assault.The ideal candidate will have strong coordination and communication skills, experience in advocacy or violence prevention work, and the ability to foster collaborative relationships with both internal staff and external partners.

Essential Job Functions
  • Coordinate and support local and regional SART teams across Utah to enhance multidisciplinary collaboration.

  • Facilitate SART meetings, case review (as appropriate), and ongoing communication between partner agencies.

  • Provide training and technical assistance to SART partners on Utah best practices, including trauma-informed, survivor-centered, and offender accountability approaches.

  • Support the development and implementation of SART protocols, policies, and interagency agreements aligned with Utah guidelines and OVW standards.

  • Identify gaps in services and systems response across urban and rural Utah communities; support strategies to improve access and equity for underserved populations.

  • Collaborate with statewide partners, including advocacy organizations, law enforcement, healthcare systems, and prosecution, to strengthen Utah’s sexual assault response infrastructure.

  • Assist with data collection, reporting, and evaluation to support statewide initiatives and measure SART effectiveness.

  • Provide consultation on system challenges while maintaining confidentiality and ethical, survivor-centered practices.

  • Support community education and awareness efforts related to sexual assault response throughout Utah.

 

Competencies & Skills 
  • Knowledge of Utah’s sexual assault response systems, including SART and SANE programs

  • Strong understanding of trauma-informed care and survivor-centered advocacy

  • Experience facilitating multidisciplinary collaboration

  • Excellent communication, training, and conflict resolution skills

  • Ability to work effectively with diverse communities across urban and rural Utah

  • Strong organizational and project management skills

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience in victim services, criminal justice, healthcare, or a related field

  • Experience working within multidisciplinary teams preferred

  • Knowledge of Utah systems, resources, and communities strongly preferred

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred (or equivalent experience)

  • Ability to travel statewide in Utah and work occasional evenings

Community Outreach & Communications Intern

Organizational Overview 

We engage individuals and organizations in local and statewide collaborations to strengthen the effectiveness of sexual violence education, prevention, and response in Utah. UCASA started in 1996 when people from across the state came together to end sexual assault. We began a partnership with state agencies and service providers that lasts to this day. Together, we support survivors and work to prevent sexual assault in all forms. UCASA is growing! Over the past couple of years, UCASA has faced significant challenges and is in the process of re-imagining our work and our organization. This is an exciting time to be a part of this organization, to be on the ground as we work toward the next amazing chapter of our organization. If you excel in a busy, dynamic and transitioning environment, this could be the place for you!

 

Responsibilities
  • Assist with creation of social media strategy. 

  • Create outreach content (flyers, videos, social media posts) to increase awareness on sexual assault resources in Utah. 

  • Assist in the maintenance of a comprehensive list of statewide community events for community outreach.

  • Support UCASA staff and outreach team at community events.

  • Assist with volunteer recruitment efforts throughout the state.

  • Work with other volunteers as directed by UCASA staff.

 

Requirements
  • Demonstrate an ability to work independently, manage time, evaluate progress, and adjust activities to complete projects within established time frames. 

  • Excellent communication skills.

  • Organized and detail-oriented.

  • Applicants who have already completed the 40 hour Sexual Assault Advocacy Training provided through UCASA will be given preference but all individuals are encouraged to apply. 

  • Thorough understanding or sincere interest in acquiring knowledge of issues related to sexual assault.

 

Position Details 
  • Fall internships (September to December), Winter internships (January-April), or summer internships (May-August) are available. Internships can be extended in some circumstances. 

  • 10-15 hours a week, flexible scheduling

  • Community outreach and communications intern will report to the Outreach Coordinator.

  • Small stipend will be provided
