Victim advocates can answer questions for survivors, loved ones, professionals, and community members. La Coalición de Utah  Contra la Agresión Sexual cuenta con una línea de ayuda de habla hispana contra la agresión sexual. La línea de ayuda es un recurso gratuito que conecta a las personas que llaman con los recursos y les ayuda a dar los siguientes pasos. Los defensores de las víctimas pueden responder a las preguntas de los supervivientes, los seres queridos, los profesionales y los miembros de la comunidad. La línea de ayuda es confidencial para los adultos, pero se nos obliga a  informar, al igual que  todos los adultos en Utah, cualquier informe de abuso infantil. Utah has several community-based resource centers that provide free and confidential services to survivors of sexual violence. Many resources are dual domestic violence and sexual violence programs, and may provide crisis intervention, court, and medical advocacy, victim advocacy programs, referrals for counseling and therapy, housing support, and general safety assurance and planning.

Sexual Assault Kit Tracking System

The Utah Department of Public Safety created the Utah Sexual Assault Kit Tracking System for any survivor of sexual assault that completes a sexual assault forensic exam. The Utah Sexual Assault Kit Tracking System is now live. To track your kit, please visit https://sakt.ps.utah.gov/sakt/status/

The Utah Sexual Assault Kit Tracking System allows survivors to track the status and location of their sexual assault kit in real time, creating complete transparency for survivors. A survivor can log in to the Sexual Assault Kit Tracking System with their sexual assault kit serial number (provided at the time of a forensic exam) and their date of birth. If a survivor does not have their sexual assault kit serial number, they can contact the law enforcement agency that took their case, or contact the Utah Department of Public Safety Victim Advocate at 801-965-4461.

The Utah Sexual Assault Kit Tracking System will also ensure that every sexual assault kit collected in Utah is sent for testing, unless the survivor specifically requests that their kit not be sent in for testing. A survivor should contact their law enforcement agency for details of test results after testing is completed. Survivors have the right to know in the state of Utah what results come back from testing their sexual assault kit. (Utah Code 77-37-3).

Survivors can also request that law enforcement agencies reach out and notify them once testing is completed.

​

Across the nation, the backlog of sexual assault kits have caused concern and inspired significant changes to the way that sexual assault kits are tracked and cared. Since 2014, Utah has been proactively working to test all un-submitted sexual assault kits and has made significant efforts to prevent sexual assault kits from accumulating in the future.

Utah is working to test all previously un-submitted sexual assault kits and wants to provide survivors with information about their sexual assault case. Those survivors who would like information about their sexual assault kit can contact the information line at (801)965-4747 Option 2 (Business hours M-Th 8 AM to 5 PM) or email the SAKI Victim Advocates by visiting https://sakt.ps.utah.gov/sakt/status/ and then selecting the Contact Us button at the top of the page.

The information presented is generalized, so keep in mind that your life, your victimization, and your recovery will be very personal and individual. You may not think, feel, or act as other people tell you that you should. You may not expect to feel the exact feelings of any other rape survivor. You are an individual and will move through stages and feelings at your own pace.

We would like to tell you that the emotional wounds that emotional and physical wounds may heal at different rates. Emotional wounds may require patience and self-compassion. It may require patience and self-compassion. Some events in your life may be painful, confusing, and traumatic. Many individuals have been victims of sexual assault. You, like them, can learn to regain a sense of power over your life. You may feel very isolated and alone, but there are agencies and organizations ready and able to help you and your loved ones.
