SART is a team of multi-disciplinary folks who meet regularly to discuss how to respond and prevent sexual violence in their community. The SART Power Hour is a unique monthly training experience that combines the expertise of folks in the field, and engaged learning. Each month a special guest will present on an important topic in sexual assault advocacy. The training if free and open to sexual assault advocates, law enforcement, mental health professionals, and folks who work with survivors of sexual violence.
This month we have Terry Palmer starring her expertise in a Multidisciplinary Response to Human Trafficking. Terry Palmer is a dedicated advocate with a strong commitment to uplifting marginalized communities. After residing in the Bay Area for almost a decade, Terry returned to her hometown of Salt Lake City, leaving behind a successful career in commercial banking. Her journey took a transformative turn as she immersed herself in volunteer work. During this time, Terry led various impactful projects, including the coordination of the Jr. League CARE Fair, a three-day community health fair and clinic. Terry’s true calling in working with youth emerged while she mentored the Salt Lake County Youth Commission and assumed the role of Local Service Director at YouthLINC. This dynamic organization focuses on fostering local and international service initiatives for high school and college students.In her quest to make a difference, Terry delved into the critical issue of housing for youth aging out of the Foster Care system. During this pursuit, she uncovered the alarming risks of human trafficking faced by homeless and vulnerable young individuals. Determined to combat this abhorrent abuse, Terry Connected with Child Rescues Backyard Broadcast. Her involvement spanned several years, during which she served as the National Director of this youth-driven initiative, utilizing peer-to-peer education to prevent human trafficking and child exploitation. Terry’s commitment to eradicating human trafficking led her to become one of the founding members of the Utah Trafficking In Persons (UTIP) Task Force, an organization with a decade-long legacy. Her engagement within UTIP has been profound, including her leadership as the Youth and Education Sub-committees Chair. Terry has been Relationship Director at 3Strands Global Foundation for the past three years. This prominent organization is at the forefront of the fight against human trafficking and exploitation, employing a multifaceted approach encompassing prevention education, employment opportunities, and community engagement.
