Diane
M. Stuart Resigns as Director of the Office on Violence Against Women
Dear
Friends and Colleagues:
On September
05, 2006, I submitted to Attorney General Alberto R. Gonzales and
President George W. Bush my resignation as Director of the Office
on Violence Against Women (OVW), to be effective October 20, 2006.
It has truly been my honor to serve this administration and the American
public.
There
is much to be done before my last day; therefore, the next two months
will be busy and productive for OVW. As I prepare to leave the OVW
and the Department of Justice, I am filled with gratitude for an extraordinary
opportunity to serve and am humbled to have worked with an amazing
group of people. It is my hope that OVW will continue to provide strong
Federal leadership as the spirit of the Violence Against Women Act,
the Coordinated Community Response (CCR), continues to steer communities
toward more effective intervention and prevention. VAWA grant programs
have the potential to continue to expand and improve community’s,
and, ultimately, the nations’ response to violence against women.
As disciplines and partnerships continue to report on their successes,
the OVW strategic focus on the sustaining of good programs should
have substantial influence on effective procedures and policies that
will continue effectively over time.
It has
also been a great privilege to work among all of you. I have learned
so much from you and I am deeply appreciative of the strong support
you have shown me along the way. Thank you for everything you have
done and will continue to do for victims of domestic violence, sexual
assault, and stalking. I am proud to be among such a talented and
dedicat
ed group of individuals.
All
the best, Diane M. Stuart
According
to the Statement of Attorney General Alberto R. Gonzales, Stuart will
resign from the Department of Justice in October, and plans to return
to her home state of Utah.

Predictors
of Injury Associated with Rape (2006)
The
purpose of this study, by Patricia A. Crane, was to assess predictors
of injury in a preliminary model with victim and forensic characteristics
as variables. Assessment of predictors will fill gaps in the literature,
help clinicians improve data-gathering methods, and identify characteristics
associated with rape-related injury of women who may be at higher risk
for subsequent poor health.
