Sexual Assault Prevention and Response in the Military: the Department
of Defense (DoD) Sexual Assault Prevention and Response Program
Military
installations are separate jurisdictions and military victims of sexual
assault face unique challenges. The U.S. Air Force, Army, and Nation
Guard have made significant, institution wide changes to address the
problem of sexual assault in the military. We will provide a thorough
review of the recent Department of Defense Sexual Assault Prevention
and Response (SAPR) directive, including the new DoD limited confidentiality
for military victims of sexual assault, and the initiatives undertaken
by
the Air Force, Army, and National Guard.

Creating Sustainable Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) Programs
Sexual
assault nurse examiner (SANE) programs have become the standard of care
for victims of sexual violence in many parts of the country. However,
access to such specialty medical care is jeopardized by a number of
programs folding or failing to launch in the first place. This presentation
will examine the reasons why SANE's fail, as well as strategies for
maintaining a strong and successful program, including retention.

(if it is not covered by collateral sources) pursuant to Subsections

provider eligibility requirements for reimbursement, how to apply for
reimbursement, the maximum payable to an eligible provider, and an understanding
of collateral sources. The presentation will also provide an explanation
of the CVR "long form" application that victims are required
to submit in order to be considered for reimbursement of expenses above
