campus violence prevention program The U.S. Department of Justice calls violence against women on college and university campuses in this country, including sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence, and stalking, "a serious, widespread problem." Recent surveys have revealed that victimization of female college students has escalated significantly. Numerous research studies have also indicated that sexual assaults and other forms of violence against women on campus are gravely underreported, suggesting that the problem is far more pervasive than statistics reveal. The primary focus of UCASA's campus violence prevention program is developing a multidisciplinary collective response to sexual assault on campus and improving victim services on campus to create a safe environment for students, faculty and staff to work and learn. As part of this goal, we work to improve the relationships between local rape recovery/crisis programs and the colleges or universities in their counties. Through collaboration and local support, UCASA has helped to increase the number of campus programs and improve the capacity for campuses and rape recovery/crisis programs to serve college students. collaborations
for creating a comprehensive approach to sexual violence on campus
- This document provides information that can
help Utah colleges and universities create a safe campus environment,
whether they are developing and implementing new policies and programs
or working to enhance existing ones. It also helps institutions to understand
its legal obligations to have a sexual violence policy and formal programming
to address sexual violence on campus. Creating a violence-free environment requires collaborative efforts by all stakeholders on campus. Working together, the campus community can - and must - make a difference by intervening and ultimately, preventing rape and sexual violence on your campus. Campus packet addendum
